The 2004-05 AORN Emergency Management Task Force was given the charge to develop an AORN Position Statement on fire prevention to present to the 2005 AORN Congress House of Delegates. The proposed Fire Prevention Statement was published in the February 2005 AORN Journal and in the 2006 AORN Standards and Recommended Practices. The position statement says that nurses should be active participants in promoting a fire-safe environment, and should take steps to minimize risk of a surgical fire.
