Other preparation activities include:

• locating gas shutoff valves and circuit breakers to determine if they are in working order;
• evaluating traffic patterns to determine that access and escape routes are not impeded; and
• locating and determining the accessibility of fire extinguishers and alarms

 Also, consider keeping a wet sponge or towel in a basin on the backfield. These can be used to safely smother a small fire should one occur during the procedure.
