All members of the team should be familiar with the techniques recommended for most effective use of the fire extinguisher. The acronym PASS can be of help when trying to remember the necessary steps:

P – Pull the pin
A – Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
S – Squeeze the trigger
S – Sweep the nozzle back and forth to extinguish the fire
