The surgeon's responsibilities should include caring for the surgical needs of the patient:

• Remove burning materials from the patient
• Control bleeding and prepare the patient for transport
• Place sterile towels or covers over the surgical site
• Conclude the procedure as soon as possible if the patient is not in immediate danger
• Assist in transport of the patient
